ALET is dedicated to promoting the positive impact of technology in education. Our members include education and technical professionals from throughout the State. They, along with our many sponsors, work hard to provide Alabama students with world-class educational opportunities.
 
Our focus is on supporting technology directors, educational technology integration coaches, and technical staff. We provide members with multiple ways to grow professionally, including annual events, certification programs, and cybersecurity camps.

Award Winners
The 2025 winners of ALET's awards were announced at the Fall Symposium on Tuesday, September 23rd.
 
Emily Elam, CIO for Huntsville City Schools, was awarded the 2025 Sally Moore Award. 
 
Misty Waldrop, Technology Integration Specialist for Cullman City Schools, was presented with the 2025 Emerging Leader Award. 

AL K12 Technology and Cybersecurity Leadership Act

The AL K12 Technology and Cybersecurity Leadership Act became law on July 1, 2024, but its impact goes into effect on October 1.
 
The bill elevates the state-recognized job title from coordinator to director, describes minimum qualifications for the position, ensures new technology directors complete introductory training and requires all other technology directors to complete 12 hours of professional development annually. 
 
ALET is charged with managing and providing the professional development. 
 
Representatives Alan Baker, Danny Garrett, Terri Collins and Senator Donnie Chesteen sponsored the bill.
